Open Endowment is a collection of volunteers who are passionate about charitable giving. We are excited about the work ahead and hope that together we can help make philanthropy an activity for everyone.



David Lee David Lee
President & Founder

David is a First Vice President of Strategic Projects at SunTrust Bank in Atlanta, GA. Prior to his work there, David spent twelve years at Bank of America in a number of strategy, innovation, and investment roles. He was the lead strategy analyst for the retail investment brokerage and helped to launch the retirement services businesses. As part of Bank of America's strategic investments group, David was directly involved in more than $14 MM of private equity investments into financial technology and capital markets firms. David has been active with the Chicago Urban League and Community Anchors in Charlotte, NC. In 2008, he served on the Charlotte Advisory Board for the John S & James L Knight Foundation. David has BA in Economics from the University of Virginia and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

David cares about education, urban renewal, and environmental sustainability.


Kieth Karem Keith Karem
Vice President & Treasurer

Keith Karem is the Director of Business Marketing at Hyatt Hotels in Chicago, IL. Prior to working at Hyatt, Kieth was a VP with The Second City. He has also worked at Discover Financial Services in Chicago from and Social Compact in Washington, D.C. He went to the University of Virginia and graduated in 2000 with a degree in Commerce. He did his graduate work at Northwestern University in Chicago and graduated in 2006 with an MBA.

Keith cares about urban renewal and youth athletics.


Xiaowen Xu Xiaowen Xu
Vice President & Secretary

Xiaowen Xu is an Associate Brand Manager at Campbell Soup Company in Philadelphia, PA. She has a broad background in marketing, information technology, project management, and consulting. Xiaowen is a graduate of the University of Chicago, with a BA in Economics and Psychology. She also has an MBA from University of Chicago's Booth School of Business.

Xiaowen cares about environmental sustainability and humanitarian issues (hunger & development).


Robert Chan Robert Chan, CFA

Robert has held a variety of roles in corporate finance, strategy, and trading. He graduated from Harvard University with a bachelor's degree in Economics and a master's degree in Statistics and also has an MBA from the University of Chicago. Rob has earned his CFA designation.

Robert cares about international infrastructure development.


Leanne Eben Leanne Eben

Leanne has spent her career spanning the profit and non-profit sectors, previously working at the Chicago Architecture Foundation and the Chicago Council on Global Affairs. She currently works for the Boston Consulting Group. Leanne has a BA in history from the University of Iowa and an MBA from University of Chicago's Booth School of Business.

Leanne cares about education and humanitarian issues, especially pertaining to women's rights globally.


Alex Theodoridis Alex Theodoridis

Alex is an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of California, Merced. He completed his doctoral work political science at the University of California, Berkeley. Alex helped to launch the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia and served as its Chief of Staff for six years. During that time he oversaw the implementation of more than a dozen national conferences and debates, an award-winning public television series, and the launch of the Center's Youth Leadership Initiative, a national civic education program. Alex has a BA from the University of Virginia and Master's in Public Policy from Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Alex cares about political participation and representation, education, and global development.


Reid Henderson

Reid is a consumer protection attorney in Washington DC. In 2012, he was recognized by the DC Bar Association as Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year. After graduating summa cum laude from The John Marshall Law School in 2005, Reid worked in the Financial Institutions Group at WilmerHale, LLP advising financial institutions on privacy, consumer protection, and mortgage-related laws and regulations. He is also a certified yoga instructor. Reid has a B.A. in Computer Science and French from the University of Wisconsin.

Reid cares about health care, sustainable living, education and anti-corruption efforts.
